What This Is All About....

Hello, and welcome to Moments For Mona! I really appreciate you stopping by.

I am one of Mona’s very lucky granddaughters, and just one of the countless people whose lives she touched. One of many who loved her dearly, and who, over the course of the last six months, realize how deeply we miss her each and every day.

I’d like to tell you a little bit about who my Grandmother was, and what Moments For Mona is all about.

Anyone who knew her would tell you what a kind, loving, strong woman Mona was. She loved her family fiercely and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake, and we all loved that about her, too. (and reaped all the benefits!) She loved to travel, journal, and had a fondness for birds and flowers. My lovely Grandmother was also brave, independent, and strong, all traits I deeply admired about her, and that inspire me daily.

So, what is Moments For Mona? What is this all about?

First of all, today, 1/24/13, would have been my Grandmother’s 90th birthday. It was a day our entire family was looking forward to – throwing her a huge party, coming together to celebrate a woman who is so important in all of our lives.  When thinking about this today, I thought, “What could I possibly do today that would honor this amazing lady appropriately?”

Then, it hit me.

My Grandmother was a volunteer at her local hospital for decades, and was actually one of the founders of the volunteer program she worked for. She enjoyed being able to help others. In addition to this, I thought, this was a woman whose presence never failed to brighten our day.

This is all what led me to start Moments For Mona, which is essentially a mission to brighten the lives of others in her memory.  From now until January 24, 2014, it is my goal to complete 90 good deeds, in honor of her 90th birthday.

As I complete these deeds, I will document them here, and write about the experience. If you choose to follow along on my journey, I greatly appreciate your support along the way.
